Reconstructive and Aesthetic Plastic Surgery deals with excision, repair, replacement and reconstruction of integument defects and underlying musculoskeletal system. It values the integral treatment of the patient, in order to recover or obtain a better function in any anatomical area and simultaneously improve the aesthetic appearance, body image and the feeling of self-esteem.
It has a very wide area of activity. In the reconstructive aspect includes congenital anomalies of the head and neck, facial paralysis, traumatology of the face including correction of stooles, reduction and fixation of isolated or multiple fractures of the face, tumors of the head and neck and reconstruction of the resulting defects, craniofacial surgery, hand surgery, burns, other traumatic or acquired injuries after previous surgical treatments, plasty of pressure ulcers, breast reconstruction.
In the aesthetic surgery aspect, it includes cervicofacial rhymingectomy (face lift), blepharoplasty (cosmetic surgery of the upper and/or lower eyelids), rhinoplasty, augmentation or reduction mammoplasty, mastopexy (breast lifting), abdominoplasty, localized liposuction and body liposculpture, brachyplasty or arm lifting, thigh dermolipectomy, otoplasty, correction of gynecomastia (breast gland enlargement in men), among other techniques. Medical procedures may also be associated (e.g., botulinum toxin injection or hyaluronic acid).
